Boating in Key West

The beautiful sunsets in Key West and its surroundings will make any person no matter how romantic or pragmatic to hire a bout and enjoy a closer view in the sea. Regardless of your destination, be it Fort Jefferson in the Dry Tortugas National Park or an ecotour to the beautiful waters of Straits of Florida, and regardless of your aim, be it a romantic sunset cruise or scuba diving adventure, the Key West area is definitely the place to be. There is a large variety of vessels to choose from, from small kayaks to large party boats and sail catamarans - everything to meet your boating needs. You can charter a whole boat or join a tourist group - the choice is yours.

The vast open areas of Florida Keys are a beautiful place to sail, but you should be very cautious if you aren't experienced boating and navigation. The complex tidal channels and reefs make it quite difficult to navigate even for experienced sailors. That's why you should always take a map of channels and depths in case you're going out on your own. The calm waters may look deceiving and you can face a temptation to speed up, especially if you're riding a wave runner. By doing that you increase the risk to run aground and that will land you in substantial fines - the whole region is a National Marine Sanctuary and any damage to the ecosystem means serious problems.

If you are a superstitious person than a local chant may help you sail safe in the waters of Key West: "Brown, brown, run aground; yellow, yellow will ground a fellow; green, green, go between; blue, blue, come on through!"

No matter what you're looking for when you book hotels in Key West, an exciting adventure or a romantic boat trip, there's definitely no better place to enjoy it than Key West!
